It is perfectly straight. You’ll have no worries about steel being warped or bowing.

It’s more fire-resistant than wood.

It’s available in both light and heavy gauge as well as galvanized and corrosion-resistant varieties.

Acoustical and Specialty Ceilings

NRC
NRC is a noise-reduction coefficient that measures how well sound is absorbed. A low-performing ceiling rating would be one that has an NRC rating of less than .50. A high-performing ceiling rating would be .70 or above.

CAC
CAC performance rates the ability of a ceiling to act as a barrier to airborne sound transmission. A rating of 25 or lower is considered to be low-performing while a rating of 35 or higher is considered to be high-performing.

Total Acoustics
This type of ceiling combines the benefits of both NRC and CAC performances to create a ceiling that is flexible enough for today’s workspaces, which is effective in many different industries and environments.

Drywall

Regular or White Board: This is the most economical drywall but is not always suitable for commercial purposes.

Moisture Resistant or Green Board: While not completely waterproof, this can be used for bathroom and basement walls, kitchens, laundry, and utility rooms.

Plaster Base Board or Blue Board: This drywall has high mold and water resistance. It also helps reduce noise and has low emissions.

Paperless: This drywall is made of fiberglass-covered gypsum.

Purple Board: This is highly resistant to water, so it’s the preferred drywall if it will be in contact with water.

Type X: Type X is abuse-resistant and fire-resistant and the correct choice for garages and apartment buildings.

Soundproof Drywall: Choose this for music rooms and other rooms when you need to contain the noise.

 Insulation

Sound Insulation
Using an insulation with an extremely high noise-reduction coefficient is important to certain industries such as televisions stations, radio stations, and music studios.

Thermal Insulation
This insulation is used in high-temperature applications and processes where the temperature can be up to 700 °C.

Vapor Barriers
Correct installation is important to guard against moisture problems. The idea is to keep water out and to let water out if it gets in.

Rigid Insulation
This type of insulation can be used in walls, roofs, and foundations. Foam usually has a higher R-value than fiberglass, cotton, or cellulose.
